Leona May (Binning) Lundy 93, passed away on July 10, 2018 at Maple Lawn Nursing Home in Fulda, MN. A family memorial will be held, to celebrate her life, August 4, 2018 at the Brethren Church in Leon IA. Leona was born on December 4, 1924, to Ralph and Lizzie Binning, at the Binning farm house in Van Wert IA.

She grew up on her family’s farm at Van Wert, and went to Pleasant Hill country grade school. She often walked to school with her brothers down the railroad tracks. She enjoyed participating in lots of 4-H activities throughout her high school years.

Leona graduated in 1943 from Decatur County High School in Leon, IA. Three years later she married her sweetheart Russel Lundy on August 4th, 1946 at the Leon Brethren Church. Leona and Russel were Blessed with a family of 7 children.

Russel’s Railroad career took them to many different locations and she made a loving home in every one. She gardened and canned all her garden produce, and was a wonderful homemaker and mother. Leona sewed everything from, baby clothes, blankets, school dresses, shirts, to Sport Coats and Bridesmaids dresses.

She was an accomplished seamstress. Leona is survived by her 6 children, Judy & Mike Varner of Colorado Springs, Carl & Kathy Lundy of Jacksonville Fl. , Sharon & Don Hudepohl of Williamsburg, IA, Bill & Audrey Lundy of Slayton MN, Doris & Ron Martin of Prattville AL.

, Steve & Eileen Lundy of Omaha NE, and Son in Law, Don Link of Oklahoma City OK, 21 grandchildren, 46 great-grandchildren. Leona was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Russel Lundy, her daughter, Neva (Lundy) Link, and her brother, Gordon Binning. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Murray County MN.

The family wishes to extend their gratitude to Maple Lawn Nursing Home of Fulda MN and to Hospice of Murray County MN for their loving care.
