Leona May Slater Kelso went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on October 15 at the age of 97. She was born May 10, 1921 in Parma, NY to the late Elmer F. Slater and Anna W. Lawvey Slater. Surviving: daughters: Norine Kelso Carter (William) of Knightdale, NC, Sandra Kelso Hawks of Phoenix, AZ; grandchildren: William Matthew Carter (Michelle) of Raleigh, NC, Jason Carter (Christine) of Morrisville, NC, Janna Carter Keefe (Nathan) of Syracuse, NY, Ryan Carter of Leland, NC; great-grandchildren: Rebecca Carter, Sarah Carter, Benjamin Carter, Evelyn Keefe, Autumn Keefe, Hannah Carter, Wesley Carter, Zoe Carter and Silas Carter.

In addition to her parents, Leona is preceded in death by her husband, Luther Frank Kelso; step-father, John H. Flemming; brother, Clarence E. Slater and son-in-law, Terry Hawks. A special thanks to the compassionate staff at Spring Arbor of Raleigh for their loving care of Leona during her short stay in their facility and to Transitions LifeCare. A memorial service of celebration is planned at Hope Lutheran Church, for 2:00 pm on Sunday, November 4.

A graveside service will be held at Garland Cemetery in Clarkson, NY on Saturday, November 10, 2018 at 1:00 pm. In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorial donations may be made to the “Music Fund” at Hope Lutheran Church, 3525 Rogers Rd, Wake Forest, NC 27587 or to St. John’s Lutheran Church, 1107 Lake Road, West Fork, Hamlin, NY 14464 for their “Stained Glass Windows” project.
