Leonard’s Obituary Leonard Biermann, age 83, of Winthrop passed away Friday, February 1, 2019 at the Good Samaritan Society in Winthrop. Funeral Service will be 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 9, 2019 at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Winthrop with Pastor Paul Tessmer officiating. Burial will take place in St. Peter’s Lutheran Cemetery in Moltke Township at a later date.

Visitation will be from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. on Friday, February 8, 2019 at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Winthrop. Visitation will also precede the service on Saturday one hour prior to the service. A luncheon will be provided following the funeral services.

Leonard is survived by his wife, Elizabeth “Betty”; their children, Mark (Lisa) Biermann and Laura (Michael) Finke; grandchildren, Samuel and Katherine Jones, Emily and Abigail Biermann. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ed and Addie Biermann and three sons Todd, Karl, and David.

Leonard P. Biermann was born November 11, 1935 in New Ulm to Edward and Adelheid (Bode) Biermann. Growing up he worked on the family farm in Gibbon. He graduated from Gibbon High School and the University of Minnesota School of Agriculture.

He worked at R&W Produce in Winthrop. On September 6, 1959 he married Elizabeth Walz at Zion Lutheran Church in Winthrop. In 1965, he became an insurance agent, he worked for Lutheran Mutual Life for 4 years and State Farm Insurance for 30 years.

He was a member of the Winthrop Kiwanis, Winthrop Opportunities, and the Life Underwriters Association. He served on the Winthrop City Council and was an active member at Zion Evangelical Lutheran where he held many church offices and was a Sunday School teacher for 20 years. In lieu of flowers the family requests you to please consider a donation to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, the Ronald McDonald House, Sibley County Food Shelf or Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church.
