Leon Nicholas Hubert, age 97, of Troy, IL, passed away on Tuesday, December 25, 2018 at Anderson Hospital, Maryville, IL. Leon was born on August 1, 1921, in East St. Louis, IL, a son of the late Anthony N. Hubert and Catherine M. (Sullivan) Hubert. On October 25, 1943, Leon married Cecelia “Ceal” Leona Becker, the love of his life, in Owensville, MO.

Ceal passed away on June 13, 2015. Leon was a faithful member of St. Jerome Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus in Troy, IL. He retired as a custodian from East St. Louis School District #189, after many years of dedicated service.

Leon was a social person and he never met a stranger. He was always willing to help anyone in need. His greatest joy was spending time with his family.

Leon loved life, he loved to laugh, but most of all he loved his family. He will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him. In addition to his parents and wife, Leon was preceded in death by a son, James Martin Hubert; daughter-in-law, Diane Hubert; sister, Marian Stettler; two brothers, Donald and Francis Hubert; and by a great-grandson, Nathan Hubert.

Leon is survived by his loving children, Michael Hubert and Patricia (Francis) Hohenstreet, both of Rosebud, MO; daughter-in-law, Nancy Hubert of Belleville, IL; brother, Richard Hubert of Smithton, IL; proud grandfather to Christy (Charles) Lancaster of Owensville, MO, James “Jimmy” (Theresa) Hubert of Belleville, IL, Kelly Friederich of O’Fallon, IL, Patrick (Sarah) Hubert of Vadnais Heights, MN and Wayne Hubert of Swansea, IL; proud great-grandfather to Austin Lancaster, Taylor Lancaster, Owen Williams, Nikola Hubert, Jace Friederich, Tristan Friederich, Natalie Hubert and Evan Hubert; many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Friday, December 28, 2018 at Irwin Chapel, 591 Glen Crossing Road, Glen Carbon, IL. Visitation will continue from 9:00 a.m. until 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 29, 2018 at St. Jerome Catholic Church, Troy, IL.

In celebration of his life, a funeral mass will follow at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, with Father Kevin Laughery officiating. Interment will be at Lake View Memorial Gardens, Fairview Heights, IL, with the committal service to be held in Reiss Chapel. Memorial donations may be given to St. Jerome Catholic Church.
