Obituary for Leroy William Powell Leroy William Powell, 73, of Martinsville, went to his heavenly home on Sunday, October 28, 2018 at SOVAH Health of Martinsville. He was born May 6, 1945, in Henry County to the late Raleigh and Irene Minter Powell. He was a fan of all sports.

Racing and football were among his favorites. He was a family man who loved all of his children and everyone who came into his life. He was of the Holiness denomination and relied deeply upon his faith in God.

Leroy retired after many years from American Furniture Company, after which his passion became recycling and sorting metals. Leroy definitely missed his calling as a jester because he loved to joke and bring laughter and smiles to everyone he met. Mr. Powell is survived by his daughters, April Powell Grogan and Melissa Hubbard; sons, Thomas Jacob Powell, John Cook, Randy Cook, and Michael Lee Childs; sisters, Shirley Overby (Danny), and Susan Dixon; brothers, Eugene Powell (Eulis), and Edward Powell; and eleven grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, November 3, 2018, at 2:00 p.m. at Word of Life Chapel located at 536 Centerville Rd. , Axton VA, with Pastor Eugene Powell officiating. Wright Funeral Service & Crematory is serving the family.
