Linda Lou Heimer Aycock , August 27, 1933 — November 17, 2018

Linda Lou “Heimer” Aycock, passed away on November 17th, 2018 at the age of 85. Linda was born in Brunswick Missouri on August 27, 1933 to Dorothy and Frederick Heimer. Linda had three siblings; Lucille Love, Virginia Rose and Frederick Caldwell.

A memorial service for Linda will be on December 17, 2018 at 10:00 AM at the First United Methodist Church with Rev. Dan Boyd and Rev. Stephanie Harmon officiating; a Celebration of Life reception immediately following.

In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the Parkinson’s Foundation at www. parkinson.org/ Denton-Wood Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. Linda received her degree in American Literature and Theatre and started teaching at Carlsbad Senior High School in 1955.

Linda met and married her “Mr. Wonderful”, H.B. (Rocky) Aycock in 1956 and had three children, Angela Gail and twins, Antony Ben and Alicia Lynn. Linda later received her Master’s degree from Eastern New Mexico University and went on to work in the Carlsbad School District Administration Office, later becoming Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum. After her first stint at retiring, Linda got bored and went on to play key roles in two community colleges in Carlsbad before her final retirement.

Linda had a passion for education and was a key advocate in starting the Head Start program in the 1960’s because she had a belief that every child has a right to the benefits of early education. Later her passion was in working for the school district to instill a love in the power of education for all students, and in her final working years her passion led to working with young adults to combine skills and education to obtain their college degrees. Linda was a respected leader in AAUW as Branch and State President, and an active member of the P.E.O. BB Chapter, the Carlsbad Foundation, and lobbied in DC for the Arts and Humanities.

Linda believed in making a difference and impact in life for others. Linda was preceded in death by her mother and father, her siblings, her beloved Rocky, and two of her children, Angela and Ben. Her surviving family includes her daughter Alicia, her grandson Michael Aycock, who she raised as her own son, her granddaughter Christina Benavidez, her grandson Ryan Bailey and 6 great-grandchildren Michaela Aycock, Tyson Aycock, Mariah Aycock, Frankie Hinojos, Avery Hinojos, and Jonah Hinojos.
