Stephen R. Kirk, 69, of S. Cypress Street, Carlsbad, New Mexico, passed away Wednesday, November 14, 2018 at his home. Cremation has taken place and a celebration of life will be held at 2:00 PM, Friday, November 16, 2018 at Cal’s Shade Western. Stephen was born October 12, 1949 in Hernshaw, West Virginia to Sidney and Zelma (Burdette) Kirk and moved to Carlsbad as a young boy.

He graduated from Carlsbad High School in 1967. Steve married Dee Caddell December 11, 1968 here in Carlsbad. He worked in the potash mines several years before going to work for MSHA where he worked until retiring in 2010.

Steve enjoyed fishing and his Friday afternoons at The Shade, henceforth celebrating his life on Friday afternoon. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Doris “Dee” Kirk; brother, James Kirk and sister, Judy Calhoun. Survivors are his son, Craig Kirk and wife, Patty of Quinlan, Texas; daughter, Crystal Martinez and husband, J.R. of Carlsbad, NM; grandchildren: Jaci Sloan, Colton Kirk and Jaden Sloan; sister, Sandy Speer and husband, Bob of Deming, NM; sister-in-law, Karla Kirk of Payson, Arizona and several nieces and nephews.
