Linney Ray Willard, 85, passed away peacefully on Monday, March 11, 2019 in Palm City, Florida. He was born June 18, 1933 in Yadkin County to the late Joseph Franklin Willard and Mary Victoria Willard. He was preceded in death by Peggy Jean Galliher Willard, his loving wife of 54 years, his sister, Geraldine Willard Granger and brother, Albert Willard.

He is survived by his daughters, Mitzy Willard Taylor (Morgan) of Palm City, FL and Nan Willard Grover (Eddie) of Columbia, SC. He also leaves five grandchildren, Hannah Grover Premaratne (Pasan), Megan Taylor, Wesley Grover (Alice), Meredith Taylor, Zachary Grover, two great-grandchildren and his brother, Franklin Willard of Germanton, NC and many nieces and nephews. Linney retired from Norfolk Southern Railroad, with a lasting love of the railroad.

He went on to have several “retirement” jobs, never one for idle time. He was friendly to everyone he encountered and never met a stranger. He loved his garden and became a Master Gardener and a bee keeper.

Linney and Peggy were long-time members of Woodland Baptist Church where he served as chairman of the deacon board for many years, a bus driver and, at times, a Sunday school teacher. He loved his church family! Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 16, 2019 at Woodland Baptist Church, 1175 Bethania-Rural Hall Road, Winston-Salem, NC 27106 with Pastor Tim Gammons officiating.

Interment will follow at Crestview Memorial Park in Rural Hall. The family will receive friends from 10:00 – 11:00 prior to the service at Woodland Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Teen Department of Woodland Baptist Church, 1175 Bethania-Rural Hall Rd.
