Lloyd Chester Lain, 94 of Urbana passed away at 4:05 p.m., Sunday, July 1, 2018 at V.A. Illiana Health Care Systems, Palliative Care Unit in Danville. Funeral Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, July 6, 2018 at Renner-Wikoff Chapel in Urbana. Rev.

Norman McCormick will officiate. Burial will take place at Woodlawn Cemetery in Urbana after the funeral. A visitation will be held prior to the service from 12:30-1:30 p.m., at the funeral home.

Lloyd was born on December 20, 1923 in Urbana to parents Ernest R. and Maude E. (Hutson) Lain. They preceded him in death. Also preceding him in death was his step mother Famie Lain Johnson, sister Irene Watterson, three brothers; Ray, Vernon and Jerry and one grandson Dan Michael Todd.

. On October 19, 1946 Lloyd married Alice L. Watson in Danville; she passed away on January 8, 2013. He is survived by his children; Joyce Walden of Champaign, Stephen Lain of Urbana, Gladys Todd of Spring Hill, TN and Roger Lain of Menifee, CA.

His brothers Garnet Lain, Jack Virgil (Sharon) Rosemyre, sister Sharlyn (Arthur) Moody, eleven grandchildren, fourteen great grandchildren and one great great grandchild on the way also survive him. Lloyd was a 1942 graduate of Fisher High School, the same year he enlisted in the United States Navy; stationed on New Caledonia Island, Australia. He was honorably discharged in 1946 as an Aviation Machinist’s Mate 2nd Class.

In 1951 he graduated from Illinois Commercial College. He was an accountant at the U of I, retiring after thirty plus years. He also retired from the Urbana Free Library (working part time) after thirty years.

Lloyd was a member of First Baptist Church of Urbana where he was a trustee as well as on the finance committee and the financial secretary, he was a lifelong member of the VFW Post #630 and a past commander and fifty year member of the Knights of Pythias. Lloyd was also a Grand Lodge Representative, a member of the Half Century Club, Co President of the Urbana Wrestling Club, a Scout Leader, Little League manager, on the Urbana Town Club and on the Webber School PTA. One of Lloyd and Alice’s favorite activities was going outdoors to find and watch deer.

He also enjoyed repairing antique clocks, camping with his family, traveling and collecting trains. Lloyd was always happy when First Federal Bank started rewarding their members with free starter tomato plants (seedlings). He had a green thumb and every year those seedlings would produce big, beautiful tomatoes.
