Lois Elaine Curtiss (1943 – 2019) Lois Elaine Curtiss, age 75 of Lake Odessa, Michigan died at Colonial Oaks Health & Rehabilitation Center, Marion, Indiana on January 5, 2019. She passed peacefully with her sister, Linda (Curtiss) Mason, at her side. Lois had shared her vision with the staff and Linda – “I see Heaven.

I see Jesus! He’s done so much for me. I love my family!

I saw Mom”. She was born November 24, 1943 at Dr. Huff’s office, Lake Odessa, Michigan, Odessa Township, Ionia County, daughter of Stephen and Sarah (Tanner) Curtiss of Lake Odessa. She attended Hinderleider School (K-8th), graduated from Saranac High School in 1961, and from Spring Arbor College (Free Methodist) in 1965 with Bachelor of Arts Degree.

She was a school teacher at Saranac Elementary (1965 – 1968) and Rupp Memorial Missionary School, Kabala, Sierra Leone, West Africa as a teacher to the Missionary children where she served for two terms (1968 – 1975) and then taught a few years at Saranac Elementary Schools and Clarksville Nursery School. Lois loved her family and the Lord. She was a member of the West Berlin Wesleyan Church (Pathway) and served as church Treasurer, active Board member, Pianist, Sunday School teacher, Chorister, President of the Wesleyan Women Missionary International, and various other church committees including compiling the history for 100th Anniversary (1996) of West Berlin Wesleyan Church.

Lois had 41-years of Kidney problems, experiencing kidney transplants and dialysis. Lutes, DC and G. Lundius, DC, Marion, IN; Wellness Center J. Friedersdolf, Wabash, IN and C. Mullinix, FNP-C, Gas City, IN; DaVita Dialysis – Ionia, MI & Huntington/Marion, IN; Fresenius Dialysis, Marion, IN; Lutheran Hospital, Ft Wayne, IN, Colonial Oaks Health & Rehabilitation Center for their care and services. She enjoyed genealogy research and chaired the formation First Families of Ionia County, actively involved with Ionia County Genealogical Society and research on Rural Schools of Ionia County.

She was recognized as the family historian – Curtiss, Tanner, Potter, Hinderleider, Lautenschlager, York, Goodenough, and Townsend. Lois was preceded in death by her parents, Stephen Lee Curtiss (1967), and Sarah Amanda (Tanner) Curtiss (1995), brothers Stephen Lee Curtiss Jr. (1946), and Clyde Clifford Curtiss (2017), sisters Hazel Elnora Curtiss (1925), and Dorothy Madelene (Curtiss) Hawkins (1997). She is survived by her brother Larry Robert (Carmen) Curtiss, Lake Odessa, Michigan and sister Linda Jean (Richard) Mason, Marion, Indiana.

Many nieces and nephews: Ivan Lee Hawkins of Osseo, MI, and Gordon Eugene (Dianne) Hawkins of West, TX; Clifford Lee (Wendi) Curtiss of Hastings, MI, Wanda Kay (Robert) Johnson of Clarksville, MI, Allan Stephen Curtiss of Saranac, MI, Stephen Emery (Marcia) Curtiss of Grand Rapids, MI and Melody Jean (Jerry) Rodgers of Lowell, MI; Deborah Ann (Paul) Phillips of Oswego, NY, and Larry Raymond (Elsie) Curtiss of Lake Odessa, MI; and several great nieces and nephews. In respect of her wishes, Koops Funeral Chapel of Lake Odessa will handle cremation. Remains to be buried on later date at Boston Township Cemetery, Saranac, Michigan.
