Obituary for Lois Mae Williams Lois Mae Williams, 87, of Media, PA passed away on October 9, 2018. She was born in St. Petersburg, FL to Bert and Opal Safreed and moved to Los Angeles, CA at the age of 4. From the time she was 8 years old Lois wanted to be a nurse.

After graduating high school in 1949 she entered the Nurses’ training program at L.A. County General Hospital and became an RN. A few years later she got her B.S. from Cal State L.A. while continuing to work at L.A. County General Hospital. In 1956, Lois entered the U.S. Army and was stationed at Fort Belvoir, VA.

When her first tour of duty ended 1st Lt. Safreed re-enlisted and was sent to Fort Lawton in Seattle, WA where she met her future husband, Dr. Claude M. Williams. Lois and Claude were married in March, 1960.

They moved to Media, PA where they raised their 2 children. While living in Delaware County Lois was active in the community as a member of the local Women’s Club, a docent for Winterthur, and a Girl Scout’s leader. When her children were in high school, Lois became a substitute nurse for the various school districts throughout Delaware County.

Lois was an ardent sports fans and regularly cheered on the teams from her childhood (L.A. Dodgers, UCLA Bruins), from her new home (Phillies, Eagles, Villanova Wildcats), and those of her children (Nether Providence Bulldogs, Univ. of Richmond Spiders, Univ. of Arizona Wildcats).

She was a history buff who loved to travel which she did quite often with her husband, both inside and outside of the U.S. Lois was also a voracious reader, a Jeopardy fan, and regularly enjoyed working crossword puzzles. Before her R.A. got the best of her hands she enjoyed sewing, latch-hooking, and cross-stitching. Lois committed her life to Jesus at a young age and one of her greatest joys was knowing God.

She was a longtime member of the Church of Christ of West Chester and taught classes for both young girls and older women. Lois was a loving wife of 58 years to Claude and a devoted mother to her 2 children – Phyllis and Michael (Tania). She enjoyed visiting with her younger sister Joanne Safreed Irons whenever she traveled out west.

She also loved being able to see her 2 grandchildren – Jeremy Williams and Rachel Norman (Taylor) – at their home in the south. A Memorial Service will be held promptly at 10:30am on Saturday, November 3 at the Church of Christ of West Chester, 1326 Park Avenue, West Chester, PA, 19380. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Church of Christ of West Chester.
