Lola “Bea” Beatrice McKee June 21, 1926 – January 17, 2019 Share this obituary Send Sympathy Gifts View/Sign Guest Book| Send Private Condolences| Send Sympathy Card Lola Beatrice “Bea” McKee age 92, of Purcell passed away Thursday, January 17, 2019, at the Sunset Estates Nursing Home in Purcell. Bea was born June 21, 1926, in Ben Wheeler, Texas. She was one of eight children born to Jim Hilliard and Lola Elizabeth (McGee) Hilliard.

Her family later moved to Purcell where she grew up a country girl living in the Woody Chapel and Criner Communities. As a teenager, Bea worked hard in the cotton and broomcorn fields with her brothers and sisters. She attended school at Washington.

At the age of 19, she met a young man named Lindsay Ellis McKee from Katie, OK. They fell in love and married on July 8, 1945, in Purcell. Together they lived and worked in the Purcell area where they attended church and raised their children and grandchildren.

Bea worked hard as a homemaker and she worked outside of the home. For over 30 years she worked in the laundry room at Sunset Estates Nursing Home. In her later years, Bea and Ellis enjoyed going to the Purcell and Elmore City Senior Citizen Centers.

There they liked visiting with friends and listening to good ole country music. Bea was a wonderful wife and mother. She cherished her grandchildren and great grandchildren and loved spending time with them playing dominoes.

She will be greatly missed. She was preceded in death by: Parents, Jim and Lola Hilliard, Husband, Ellis McKee on May 29, 2002, Children, Wanda DeShazer, and Virginia Watson, Granddaughter, Athena McKee, Brothers, James, Pete, J.T. and Jerry Hilliard. Sisters, Louise Bartts.

She is survived by: Son, Lindsay Eugene McKee and wife Linda of Pleasanton, TX. Grandchildren she raised like her own children, Kelly Lennon and wife Kele of Lexington, Jimmy Lennon and wife Lori of Purcell, Michelle Berdan and Mackenzie Gier of Purcell. Two sister, Lee McKenzie and Gail Everidge of Denton, TX.

10 grandchildren, 28 great and great-great grandchildren, Many nieces, nephews, and a host of friends. Funeral Services will be 10:00 am Monday, Jan. 21, 2019, at Wilson-Little Funeral Home Chapel in Purcell.
