Makayla Juanita Yeaman was shot and killed in an altercation Friday, June 8, 2018. She was born to parents LeeAnn Rasmussen Richards and Paul Stan Loya on March 3, 1995, at St. Marks Hospital in Murray, Utah. She was a pleasant baby that slept all night and rarely cried.

At nine months old, she started to talk and never stopped. When she was three years old, her mommy, LeeAnn, married Farrell Dee Yeaman who later adopted her. She is a member of the Latter Day Saint Church and has a strong testimony of Jesus Christ.

Makayla spent her early years in Las Vegas, Nevada, and Logan, Utah, where she attended school and primary. She was gifted in speech and comprehension. She attended Indian Hills Middle School where she was bullied daily.

She went to West Jordan High School and got her diploma at Utah State Prison. She was very proud of this accomplishment. Makayla had a spirit too big for her body.

Her personality was loud, friendly and wonderful. She loved to help people and always worked hard at everything she did. If she knew you, she loved you, she loved you, and she made sure you knew it.

She loved to write and could jot down a rhyme in no time. She had a beautiful voice and loved to sing. She also loved sign language and was hoping to work in that field.

Makayla suffered from the disease of addiction. Her parents are in recovery but weren’t always, so she had it tough growing up. Her mom lost and fought for her a couple of times and always won.

Her favorite saying coined by her brother Tyson was that she loved us “from the bottom of the building to the top of the world” and she added to it “ always and forever, no matter what”. This is exactly how our family loves each other. She was preceded in death by her best friend, Rico Calbert.

She left behind her heroes and grandparents, Lee and Marlene Rasmussen, her favorite people—Aunt Kaydee and sissy bear, Vanice, seven brothers and three other sisters, her mommy, LeeAnn, her daddy, Farrell, and her Pops, Paul. Also left grieving are her grandma Sandy, several aunts and uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews, and many, many friends. Many thanks to Nessa Smith and GoFundMe.

Also, many thanks to the Aspen Funeral Home and all who have come forward to help in any way. We greatly appreciate it. There will be a viewing Thursday, June 14, from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at the L.D.S. Church at 10945 South 1700 East, Sandy, Utah.

A short viewing will be at 9:30 – 10:45 on Friday Morning, same place. Funeral Services will begin at 11:00 a.m. Interment will be at Murray City Cemetery.
