Michael Simms, December 09, 1953 — May 20, 2018

Obituary for Michael Simms Michael Simms, age 64, developed pneumonia and died on Sunday morning, May 20, 2018. He was born in Parker, Arizona on December 9, 1953. Michael was an American Indian.

He was adopted by a caucasian couple, Calvin and Marian Sundust Simms. In later years he was able to reconnect with his native American mother and sister. Both he and his sister were amused to see how closely they resembled each other.

Not much is known about Michael’s childhood except that his adoptive parents were well to do and he was obviously well taken care of. Michael had a beautiful singing voice which he would share when he had the opportunity. He had been a guest singer with the Mormon Tabernacle Choir and he know and sang with Shirley Temple.

He shared a story about a time when he played the piano in the Lion House and was on occasion invited to sing at Lagoon. People enjoyed hearing him sing the congregational hymns in the LDS wards which he was in and he usually sang with the ward choir. Near the latter part of his life he was the pianist for sacrament meeting.

Michael had a lot of health issues, struggling with asthma, obesity and complications of diabetes. His kidneys failed and he had to have dialysis the last few years of his life. He couldn’t take care of himself anymore so he had to stay at Avalon Care Center where he made a lot of friends.

He was very sociable and enjoyed interacting with people. He enjoyed watching movies, especially LDS and Christian movies. Michael has no surviving family members.
