Obituary for Margaret “Marge” Karp Margaret “Marge” Karp age 93 of Cary, IL passed away peacefully at home on October 18th, 2018 with family members by her side. She was born December 9, 1924 in Chicago, the daughter of Joseph and Ethel Huey. Famous for her saying “You have got to keep moving!

” Marge lived a full life, playing senior softball until she was 80 years old, and bowling in a league until she was 90. During the depression, Marge was forced to quit school after 8th grade to care for her younger siblings, and always cared about education, so in her early 40’s she went back to school and earned her high school diploma. Marge loved to entertain family and friends, and at her advanced age, even hosted a large party at her home this past 4th of July.

Marge worked for Leader Hardware of Fox River Grove for over 30 years. Marge is survived by her daughters, Mary Ellen Karp, of McHenry, Judi (Bill) Garrelts of Crystal Lake, her grandchildren, Melanie Garrelts of Aurora, CO, 1st Lt. Austin Emery, an officer in the U.S. Army, Newport News, VA, Dana Emery, Wonder Lake, IL, her son-in-law, Rod Emery, of Wonder Lake, her special niece, Betty Szwankowski, of Crystal Lake, her sisters, Rose May of Arlington Heights, Joeann Eidsvoog of Cedar Falls, Iowa, Pauline Lancaster of Norridge and many nieces and nephews.

Marge is also survived by her little canine companion, Roxie. Her husband of over 55 years, Robert “Bob” Karp, and her beloved youngest daughter, Linda Emery, preceded Marge in death. The family wishes to thank her special friends and neighbors, Sue Schennum, and Bonnie Brennan, as well as the Allen and Wagner families, who all helped her stay in her own home for so many years, All neighborhoods should be like this one.

The family also wants to give a nod to her friend who helped care for her, Jody Gustafson of Oakwood Hills, to her friend of many years, Barb Slusin, and to Journey Care for their support. Funeral services will be private. However, there will be an open celebration of life on Saturday, October 27th at Galati’s Hideaway, 800 Feinberg, Cary, Il from 1pm to 4pm.

All are invited to attend to celebrate this strong, independent woman’s life. Marge loved people, so please stop by for a few minutes or a few hours! The further education of her grandchildren was very important to her, as was her little dog, Roxie.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her name to Underdog Rescue of Antioch, IL or to her family for the further education of her grandchildren. And please take Marge’s advice, no matter what your age. “Keep on moving”!
