Margaret E. Mooney (Schrock, Eichner), 88, lifelong resident of Columbus, passed away in her sleep on October 30, 2018 at Westminster-Thurber Community in Columbus, where she has been a resident for the past thirteen years. Her family expresses deepest appreciation to the Ohio Living/Westminster-Thurber Bridgewater, HealthCare and Rehabilitation staff who, to a person, provided professional, loving and attentive care for our mother. Margaret was born December 15, 1929 in Columbus and attended St. Mary of the Springs for twelve years, returning later in life to graduate with an education degree from Ohio Dominican College.

Both were her lifelong and cherished touchstone and place of fond memories. Margaret had two wonderful husbands who preceded her in death. Herman Eichner passed away on February 8, 1960 after 11 years of marriage and with whom she had five children, Michael (deceased) (Maria) Eichner, Christine (David) Berger, Phillip (Christine) Niedzielski-Eichner, Lucy (Jeff) Rains and Molly Eichner (Sherie Biegel).

Margaret married Patrick Mooney in 1964, who became instant father to her five children. They were married for 51 years before his passing in 2015. She leaves behind many extended Eichner, Reis, and Mosure/Mooney family members and ten grandchildren who are successful in life and five great-grandchildren each with boundless joy-inducing energy.

Grandchildren are Nora Niedzielski-Eichner (Mark Smith), Erin (Niedzielski-Eichner) Thompson (Daniel), Charles Berger (Briana), Ellen (Berger) Ballman (Megan), Sarah (Rains) Crosby (Jeremiah), Stephen Rains, Maureen (Eichner) LaFerney (Timothy Ryan), Margaret Eichner, Nicholas Eichner and Grace Biegel-Eichner. Great-grandchildren are Ivy and Anya Thompson, Henry and Fiona Crosby and Zelda Smith. Margaret knew no strangers, always sharing her smile and good cheer with anyone she came across.

She lived a rewarding life, rich with faith, hope and love. All visits ended with a smile and an “onward and upward” goodbye. A widow at 29 with a young family, she became a teacher, while taking college courses in the evening.

She first taught at Our Lady of Victory Parish and then at St. Timothy Parish, from where she retired after 26 years of service, 10 of them as a beloved principal. She remained active in her retirement as a member of the Grandview Civic Association, OWLS, Life-long Learning Institute and BREAD. Calling hours will be on Sunday, November 4th from 3:00 – 6:00 pm at Egan-Ryan Central Chapel, 403 E. Broad St., Columbus.

A Memorial Mass will take place at 10:00 am on Monday, November 5th at Our Lady of Victory Church, 1559 Roxbury Rd, Columbus. Cremation and internment services with the immediate family will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Margaret E. Mooney may be made to Ohio Living/Westminster-Thurber Community or the Alzheimer Association at www.
