Obituary for Margaret Siegel Friedman Margaret Siegel Friedman, born September 27, 1917 in Atoka, Oklahoma, passed on October 12. She was 101. She graduated from Humes High School.

While her husband, Harold “Buddy” Friedman fought in the Pacific, she worked for M.E. Carter Co. in the fruit and produce business, and then she followed her boss to United Liquor, where they ran bootleg whisky into dry Mississippi. She took a job at the Memphis Jewish Community Center in the late 1950’s, to work off her sons’ day camp fees, and she stayed for more than 30 years. She retired in 1985 as the director of the preschool there.

Her parents were Anna and Joseph Siegel. Her husband, Harold “Buddy” Friedman, and her sons Dr. David Gordon Friedman and Robert Michael Friedman predeceased her, as did her sisters Miriam Friedman (Nate) and Frances Weiner (Sol). She is survived by her sister Florence Fink (Alvin), her daughter-in-law, Elaine Friedman, her grandsons Daniel Friedman and Jonathan Friedman, two great granddaughters and many nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Sunday, October 14 at the Baron Hirsch Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Memphis Jewish Community Center or the Baron Hirsch Synagogue.
