Margaret (Yusko) Falvo, 97, of Sharpsville passed away Sunday December 30th, 2018 at Clepper Manor in Sharon, PA. Margaret was born on December 9th, 1921 to Michael and Anna (Sudzina) Yusko in Sharon, PA. She was a graduate of Sharon High School and the Shenango Valley Commercial School.
On July 30th, 1949 she married her husband, the late Dominic Falvo. Margaret worked as the office manager at Chevron Inc. in Mercer. Following her retirement at age 70, she started her college career at Penn State Shenango campus where she earned her associate’s degree in 1999.
While attending, she took a leadership role in ASK or Adults Seeking Knowledge. She continued her education into her 80’s, stopping just before earning her bachelors but still earning an honorary achievement certificate. While at Penn State, Margaret served as President of Women in Transition in 2004 and was elected to Who’s Who Among Students in American Universities & Colleges in 2007.
She was a member of St. Bartholomew Catholic Church. Margaret volunteered at the Sharon Library literacy program, as a tutor for those learning English as a second language, and for the Mercer County Election office at polls for many elections. Margaret was a lifelong avid reader as evidenced by her cherished book collection.
She also enjoyed writing short stories, walking, quilting, collecting plates and flower gardening. She is survived by her daughters, Linda Dawson of Lapeer, MI, Patricia (John) Kozak of Berlin, CT, sons, Robert (Mary) Falvo of Millbrook, AL, Richard (Denise) Falvo of Erie, PA, 12 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren, and 10 great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brothers Michael, Albert, John Yusko, sister, Anna Sefrick, and granddaughter, Karen Fultz.
Memorial contributions may be sent to the Salvation Army, Community Food Warehouse, Sharon Public Library, or Penn State Shenango in memory of Margaret. Friends may call Thursday January 3rd, 2018 from 4 pm to 7 pm at SHERMAN Funeral Home & Cremation Service 2201 Highland Rd. Hermitage, PA.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday January 4th, 2018 at 10:00 am in St. Bartholomew Catholic Church in Sharpsville, PA with Father Matthew Strickenberger, officiating. Friends are welcome to meet directly at church. Burial will take place in St. Michael Byzantine Catholic Cemetery Hermitage, PA.
