Obituary for Maria T. Sotomayor Maria T. Sotomayor, 84, passed away on February 7, 2018 at her home. She was born October 23, 1934 in Los Herreras, Nuevo Leon to Lucio Benavides and Martina Lopez. Maria left Mexico with her father and moved to Waukegan in 1963.

In 1966, she met and married Francisco Sotomayor. They shared 40 years of marriage until his passing in 2007. She retired after 25 years from Solo Cup Company in Highland Park, making life long friends along the way.

She was a member of the Primera Iglesia Bautista in Waukegan since 1970. Maria was known for her feisty, yet good sense of humor. She opened up her heart and home to many people over the years.

She will be missed by all that knew and loved her. Survivors include her daughter Sonia (Josue) Leon of Waukegan; sons Francisco (Sofia) Sotomayor Jr of Waukegan, Daniel (Claudia) Hinojosa of Arizona; Noehmi Lopez; her granddaughters Arelis and Giselle Leon, Selah and Yamilla Sotomayor; her grandson Frankie (Brenda) Torres, all of Waukegan; her Nephews Tiburcio, Victor, Homero Martinez of Waukegan and many other nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Francisco Sotomayor and sister Demetria Martinez.

Funeral Services will be held at 10am Friday, February 16th, 2018 at Peterson & Patch Funeral Home, 408 N. Sheridan Road, Waukegan, with pastor Italo Ballesteros officiating. Intermet will be Friday at Northshore Garden of Memories in North Chicago. Visitation will be held Thursday, February 15th, 2018 at Peterson & Patch Funeral Home, from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Arrangements by Peterson & Patch Funeral Home, 408 N. Sheridan Road, Waukegan, IL.
