Marian Jean Ames, 75, of Route 11, Preble, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, April 17, 2018. A lifelong area resident, she was born August 21, 1942 in Syracuse, a daughter of William H. and Marian Warner Millis. Jean was a graduate of Tully High School.

She was retired from the Operating Engineers Local 545, Syracuse, where she was employed for a number of years as a claims supervisor. Jean loved her family and enjoyed cooking for them. Her Thanksgiving dinners, attended in excess of 40 people, were legendary.

Surviving is her husband of 44 years, David E. Ames; her mother, Marian Millis of Syracuse; three children, Roderick A. Comstock of Syracuse; Robert T. (Gail) Comstock of Marietta and Millisa A. (James) Morrow of Manlius; nine grandchildren; siblings, William (Myrna) Millis; James (Sherla) Millis; Ellen (Dale) Russell and Linda Millis as well as several nieces and nephews. In keeping with Jean’s wishes, services will be private and at the convenience of the family. There are no calling hours.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Mrs. Ames’ memory may be directed to the Preble Fire Dept. , 1911 Preble Rd. , Preble, NY 13141 or to the Phillips Free Library, 37 South Main St., Homer, NY 13077.
