Marian Joyce (St. John) Sutphin, 92 of Newton died on Friday, July 6, 2018, at Accura Healthcare of Newton East. A visitation will be held from 1-2 p.m., Wednesday, July 11, at the Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory followed by a graveside service at Newton Union Cemetery. Memorials to Marian’s family will be left at the funeral home.

Marian, the daughter of Wilbur and Carrie (Lauritson) St. John, was born on October 10, 1925 in Algona. She attended schools in Algona, Milford, and Clinton University. Marian was united in marriage with Raymond Dale Sutphin on May 8, 1943 in Bethany, Missouri.

They made their home in Newton; where Marian worked at Skiff Medical Center for 27 years as a CNA and later an LPN. She was a member of the First Assembly of God Church in Newton. Marian enjoyed helping and caring for others and spending time with her family.

Marian is survived by two sons, Tom (Nancy) Sutphin of Moberly, Missouri and Dan (Fran) Sutphin of Newton; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Marlene (Bill) Kinsey of Ohio and Beverly (James) Schuller of Humboldt; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Raymond; sons, Duane and Randy Sutphin; daughter, Judy Sutphin; granddaughter, Tania Supthin; grandson, Michael Slea; a great-grandchild at birth; three brothers, Wilford, Durwood, and Everett St. John; and a sister, Helen Nelson.
