Marian Eileen Smith, 82 of Petoskey, died Saturday, June 23, 2018 at the Bay Bluffs Medical Care Facility in Harbor Springs, MI. Marian was born on September 7, 1935 in Petoskey, the daughter of Ernest Lee and Dorothy Mae (Zipp) O’Brien and grew up in Petoskey, graduating from Petoskey High School with the class of 1953. On August 30, 1953, Marian married Richard Wellington Smith in Petoskey and he preceded her in death on March 6, 2014.

She was a lifetime member of the Fraternal Order of the Eagles Women’s Auxiliary 2462 and a former DOE member of the BPOE Elks Club of Petoskey. Marian’s greatest joy was spending time with her grandchildren & great-grandchildren. She has left an indelible mark upon their lives.

She also loved her time traveling with her husband up ‘over the bridge’, spending time with her dear friends at JB Hair Design and the friendships she established during her lifetime. Marian is survived by 4 daughters, Renee (Arthur) Faustmann, Tina (Mark) Foltz, Corrine Smith, and Lauree (Wayne) Kirchoff; 9 grandchildren, Hannah Faustmann, Nicholas (Ashley) Foltz, Samantha (Gary) Fettig, Luke (Lisa) Foltz, Katie (Nathan) Eberly, Nathan (Ira) Bauer-Spector, Cpl. Paul (Alexandria) Bauer, Ashley (Tom) Anderson, and Erin (Kelly) Huyck; 8 Great-Grandchildren, Jacob Niswander, Maisy Kiogima, Abigail Eberly, Alison and Rachel Fettig, Kenneth Anderson, and Cadence and Bryson Bauer; Sister, Jane Nellie Zipp; and Step-Sister, Norma (William) Ashby.

She was preceded in death by her parents and by her husband, Richard Wellington Smith. The family wishes to extend a special thank you to the staff of Bay Bluffs Medical Care Facility and to the staff of Hospice of Michigan for the tender care and compassion they showed to Marian and her family. The family will receive friends at the Stone Funeral Home on Wednesday, June 27th from 6-8pm.

Services celebrating Marian’s life will be held on Thursday, June 28th at 11am at the funeral home with Rev. David Behling officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery.

Those wishing to honor Marian’s memory with a donation are asked to consider the Women’s Auxiliary of the Fraternal Order of the Eagles 2462.
