In Loving Memory Marion Aden Culley May 14, 1920 – May 22, 2018 Marion Elpha Aden Culley passed away at the Odd Fellows Home in Walla Walla on May 22, 2018. She was born April 14, 1920 in Walla Walla to John Aden and Freda Bryant Aden and grew up near Mill Creek. She was educated in a one room schoolhouse on Mill Creek, graduated from Wa-Hi in 1937 and received her RN from St. Mary’s School of Nursing in 1941.

She met her future husband, C.H. Culley, a Weston farmer when he… Read More » was hospitalized with appendicitis. Our mother generously gave her time seeing to the health care needs of her local community. She was admired for her quick wit and social graces as well as her artistic talent.

She was a former lifeguard and once saved two boys from drowning in a nearby creek in Weston. Every summer she worked as a nurse at Lamb-Weston cannery and frozen food plant. Later she worked full time as an ICU/CCU nurse at St. Anthony’s Hospital in Pendleton, retiring at age 71.

Her children were her main focus and they remember her with love and appreciation. Her son Bob Culley recalls how she helped him bridge the difficulties of youth with her perception, wisdom, and love. Her daughter Maureen Calkins considers herself fortunate to have such a kind, understanding and forgiving mother since those traits were required for raising Maureen.

Her daughter Kathleen Howard recalls how important her mother’s strength, support and encouragement guided her in life. Her son Cliff Culley credits his mother with teaching him how to share. He remarked, “If I ever decide to share at least I’ll know how”.

For her daughter Kim Warner, her mother was a major influence in her life. She recalls her mother’s practical mind along with a great sense of humor, traits for which she was well known. She is survived by her son Robert Culley (Mariann), daughter Maureen Calkins (Bill), daughter Kathleen Howard, son Cliff Culley (Roni), daughter Kim Warner (Don), eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband C.H. Culley and daughter Colleen Moser. Our mother was always there for all of us and we will miss her forever.
