Obituary for Marion “Mary” Reynolds (Spiak) AMENIA, NY – Marion “Mary” Spiak Reynolds, 93, died peacefully on Friday, March 23, 2018. She was born January 14, 1925 in Watervliet, NY to Ukraine immigrants, Andrew and Catharine (Shewchuk) Spiak and was the youngest of 5 (Alex, Michael, Sophie and Evelyn). She was the first in her family to attend college receiving her BA in Education from the NYS Teachers College at Albany.

While teaching, she attended SUNY New Paltz for her Masters. She taught multiple generations of students in the Webutuck School District in Amenia, NY for over 35 years. She married Edward “Ned” DeLaVergne Reynolds on September 24, 1949 and raised their family in the Wassaic and Amenia area.

Ned predeceased her on October 5, 2005. Marion was an active member of the community and was a communicant of the Immaculate Conception Church and volunteered at the Rose Thrift Shop. She was known for being well dressed in bright cheerful colors with matching shoes and handbag.

She enjoyed sewing and needlework, being on the beach, socializing, baking delicious goodies, reading, and exercising and taking long walks. After retirement, she made a point of annually traveling to different parts of the world. Her kind, generous, fun-loving spirit has impacted many people throughout her long life.

She is survived by her three children: Kitty Brand of Hyde Park, NY; Michael Reynolds of Oskaloosa, IA; and Mark Reynolds of Houston, TX. She leaves behind six grandchildren: Jasmine Brand of Watervliet, NY; Jay (Tanya) Brand of Missoula, MT; Anja (Reed) Ketcham of Austin, TX; Kaitlin Brand-Rose of Pleasant Valley, NY;April Reynolds of New York City; Angie Reynolds of Seattle, WA. Also, looking at her 3 great-grandchildren, Thora and Ashton Brand and Lorien Ketcham, made her smile proudly and giggle.

She leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends. In accordance with her wishes, arrangements and services are private. Condolences may be sent to Kitty Brand, 24 Windmill Road, Poughkeepsie, NY 12601.

In lieu of flowers, donations in her name can be made to the “cat community” at Dutchess Co. SPCA, 636 Violet Avenue, Hyde Park, NY 12538 (dcspca.org) or to the Immaculate Conception Church, 4 Lavelle Road, Amenia, NY 12501. Arrangements are by the Parker Bros. Memorial in Watervliet, NY.
