Obituary for Peter Jensen ALBANY – Peter C. Jensen, 77, passed peacefully from this life on Thursday, August 16, 2018. Peter was the beloved husband of the late Joan E. (Weasack) Jensen with whom he shared 35 years of marriage before her passing on November 1, 2005. The son of Peter E. and Elizabeth (Kiernan) Jensen, Peter was born in Albany on August 1, 1941 and had resided in the Capital District for the majority of his life.
He was retired from H.E.R.E. Union, Local 471 where he served as an executive board member and business agent for 14 years. Peter had also worked with his parents in the restaurants and bars they operated in the Capital Region and had worked as a bartender at the Saratoga Race Course.
He was a construction supervisor on the South Mall project in Albany and, in earlier years while residing in New York City, took employment as an asbestos worker and dockworker. He was proud to have earned a degree in labor management from the University of Maryland, George G. Meade Center, in Maryland. Peter was a 50 year member of the Albany Elks Lodge and was also a member of the Cobleskill Masonic Lodge.
In addition to his wife, he was pre-deceased by his uncle, Victor Jensen; his aunt, Helen Jensen and his brother Roger Cotrofield. He leaves behind his dear friends, Michele Statile of Albany who was his caretaker and Daniel Statile of Niskayuna with whom he shared a friendship of more than 50 years. Peter will be missed by all who knew him and loved him.
Peter would want his physicians, Dr. George Forrest, Dr. Thomas Couch, Dr. Jeffrey Kennedy and Dr. Jonathan DeSantis to know how much he appreciated their professionalism and skill in providing him with the best of care always. A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday at 10 am in Christ Our Light Catholic Church, Loudonville. The Rite of Committal and entombment will follow in the American Saints Mausoleum at St. Agnes Cemetery, Menands, NY.
Friends are invited to attend and may also visit on Sunday, from 3 until 5 pm, at the Parker Bros. Memorial, 2013 Broadway in Watervliet. Peter shared a friendship with Father Peter Young and, in appreciation for his friendship and for his wonderful work, requested that contributions, in his memory, be made to Peter G. Young Foundation, 134 Franklin Street, Albany, NY 12202.
