Obituary for Lois Schimmel (Mihalko) Watervliet – Lois J. Schimmel, 73, of Watervliet, passed away at home on Monday, July 30, 2018, with her loving daughter by her side. Born in Troy on January 11, 1945, she was the daughter of the late Michael Mihalko and Anastasia Prokop. Lois grew up in Troy and was a 1962 graduate of Troy High.

She then moved to Chicago and attended the American Academy of Medical Technology where she studied both medical and x-ray technology. She remained in Chicago, working first doing EKG’s and later switching to clerical work. She moved back to the local area in 1989, working in both medical oncology and acupuncture.

She also worked as a secretary at Eddy Memorial Geriatric Center in Troy, where she made many friends. In her free time Lois enjoyed spending time with her pets, especially her beloved dog, Luca. She had a sweet tooth and loved going out for ice cream.

Lois was a strong family woman who would do anything for those who meant the most to her. Her entire life revolved around her daughter Nicole. Whether it was raising her, taking care of her, or just simply spending time with her, Lois was at her best when she was with Nicole.

Lois was a resilient fighter who always kept her head held high. She fought till the very end and never once gave up her hope to survive. Lois is survived by her aforementioned daughter, Nicole Schimmel of Watervliet, her uncle, Alec Prokop of Guilderland, several cousins, including Phyllis Lewandowski, Karen Carney, Donna Viglione, Patricia Morse, and Stephen Sluti, and by her best friends, Cathy Cook and Kathy Davis.

A visitation will be held Friday, August 3, 2018 from 4 until 7 PM at Parker Bros. Memorial Funeral Home, 2013 Broadway, Watervliet. A funeral service will held Saturday, August 4, 2018 at 10 AM at the funeral home.

Interment will follow in St. Agnes Cemetery.
