Obituary for Marion R. Ames ROCKLAND – Marion B. Ames, 96, died peacefully Friday, April 20, 2018 at the Cushing Homestead in Cushing. Born in Rockland, January 4, 1922, she was the biological daughter of Arthur and Iva Stanley Rawley, and the step-daughter of Stephen Daniels. Educated locally, Marion was a 1941 graduate of Rockland High School.

She always enjoyed school and was successful at everything she put her mind too. In the 1940’s Marion married Allison Ames and was divorced in the 1960’s. She lived with her mother and step-father until they past.

She continued living in the family home in Rockland until recently, when she went to live for several years at the Methodist Conference Home on Summer Street. Most recently she has resided at the Cushing Homestead. She joined the work force after graduating high school and held many jobs.

One memorable job was working with her mother at the Sardine cannery on the waterfront in Rockland. In 1988 she retired from the Pen Bay Medical center after 30 years as a medical supply specialist. For many years Marion was a member of the Seniors of Rockland and enjoyed traveling with them.

She once spoke of a time when they took a cruise to Seal Island and were all evacuated from the Ferry because of engine difficulties. In recent years, Marion has marveled at the positives changes to Rockland’s Downtown area. She thought it was great to see it looking so good and the many changes it has gone through.

Her favorite place to grab a quick bite was always Wasses! Marion was an avid pet lover. Up until just recently she had a friendly cat always at her side.

Her pets had a special place in her heart through the years. Another thing she talked fondly about was her grandparents, Lorenzo and Clara (Stockbridge) Stanley and her many aunts, uncles and cousins. She is predeceased by mother Iva Stanley Rawley, step-father Stephen Daniels, and father Arthur Rawley; along with her sister Norma Woodman.

Marion is survived by her niece Maria Heal and her husband Ricky and their children and grandchildren. Her friend Richard Wehnke spoke of the positive impact she had on him and others. She was a sweet and kind soul and always enjoyed talking with others.

A great “Thank You” to her care givers at the Cushing Homestead for making her last day’s great ones. A graveside service will be held at 2:30 p.m., Monday, May 14, 2018 at Achorn Cemetery in Rockland. In lieu of flowers those who wish may make a memorial donation to Sussman House, c/o Pen Bay Healthcare Foundation, 22 White Street, Rockland, Maine 04841.
