Obituary for Mark Andrew Baker Baker, Mark (1964-2018) Mark Andrew Baker, age 54, passed away suddenly on Sunday April 15, 2018. He was born on February 2, 1964 in Columbus, Ohio to the late Leonard Baker Jr and Donna (Wellington) Baker. Mark is survived by his wife of nearly 29 years, Amy; their children Rachel and Nathan; brother Lenny Baker (Pam); in-laws Don and Carol Isler; brother-in-law Mark Isler (Teresa); brother-in-law Mike Isler (Heather); former sister-in-law Lora Perry Giese (Lynn); nieces and nephews Phil, Morgan, Owen, Sarah, Josh, Mitch and Luke; special friends Bart and Belinda Smith and their children Jarod and Colin.

Mark was a Professor of Voice and the Opera/Musical Theater Director at Capital University since 2000. He loved his students and centered everything he did at Capital around what was best for them. He treasured his many colleagues at Capital, many of whom were close friends.

His legacy as a teacher will be carried on through the many students who benefited from his loving guidance and his brilliance as a teacher and performer. As a professional performer, his rich baritone voice, smile and presence filled every inch of each stage he commanded. He mastered over 60 leading roles with a variety of opera companies including The Santa Fe Opera, The Atlanta Opera, The Florentine Opera, Lake George Opera, The Nashville Opera, The Dayton Opera, The Central City Opera, The Baltimore Symphony, Opera Columbus, and most fondly, Columbus Light Opera.

In 2003 he was the inaugural recipient of the Artist of The Year award from Opera Columbus. Of the many roles he played throughout his career, Mark most cherished his role as husband to Amy and father to Rachel and Nathan, whom he loved deeply and unconditionally. His proudest moments were not from his own personal achievements, but from those of his loved ones, especially his children.

He absolutely adored every moment spent with family and friends. Mark will be greatly missed but his love, kindness, humor and song will live on in all who knew him. A Celebration of Life service will take place at 11:00am Saturday, April 28th in Mees Hall at Capital University.

Doors will open at 9:00am as guests are invited to watch a video tribute and offer condolences by writing a message to Mark’s family. Contributions to honor Mark may be made to The Baker Family Memorial Fund at any Fifth Third Bank location. Arrangements entrusted to WOODYARD EAST CHAPEL.
