Marlin W. Shaffer, 83, of Massillon, passed away on November 7, 2018. He was born on January 13, 1935, in Johnstown, Pennsylvania, to the late Hummel and Evelyn (Merritt) Shaffer. Marlin worked at various places during his life, in more recent years at Sun Television and All American Home Lending, but spent the majority of his working years at Superior Meats.

He also belonged to the Elks, the Eagles, the American Legion, and the Sons & Daughters of Herman. In his spare time, Marlin enjoyed watching football and was a faithful fan of the Cleveland Browns. He was an avid dancer, especially enjoying the polka and jitterbug.

Marlin also loved doing crosswords and visiting the Kendal Tavern every day. He will be deeply missed by his children Troy (Mary) Shaffer of Old Brooklyn, Amber (Jonathan) Koppenhofer of Hilliard, and Dustin Shaffer of Wadsworth; grandchildren Aidan Koppenhofer, Emerson “Emie” Koppenhofer, Paislee Shaffer, Lincoln Shaffer and Missie Shaffer; brother Robert “Bob” (Shirley) Shaffer of Massillon; and companion Betty Gortney of Massillon. In addition to his parents, Marlin was preceded in death by his two brothers Homer and Barry Shaffer, both of Massillon.

A celebration of Marlin’s life will be held on Saturday, November 24, 2018, at the Paquelet & Arnold-Lynch Funeral Home in Massillon at 3 p.m. with Rev. Gary Smith officiating. The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. until the start of the service.
