Obituary for Mrs. Martha Callicutt Martha Jean Hodgin Callicutt, 78, of Asheboro, passed away on Monday, October 15, 2018 at Clapp’s Convalescent Nursing Home, Asheboro, after a long battle with Alzheimer’s Disease and Chronic Myelogoneus Leukemia (CML). Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 p.m., Friday, October 19, 2018, at Oakhurst Baptist Church, Asheboro, with Dr. Richard Crider and Dr. D. Keith Hudson officiating. Burial will follow at Callicutt Memorial Church Cemetery, Asheboro.

Mrs. Callicutt was born August 7, 1940, in Ramseur, NC, to the late Reece and Mary Magdalene Smith Hodgin. She was a 1958 graduate of Ramseur School where she played basketball and made “All County” and ” All Conference”. A 1959 graduate of Asheboro Business College, she then started her first job at the Credit Bureau of Asheboro.

She retired with Allstate Insurance Company, Howard McKinnon agency. Mrs. Callicutt was a member of Oakhurst Baptist Church where she was a member of the choir. She had volunteered with the Red Cross, was active in the Republican Party and Precinct Judge for many years, volunteered at Lindley Park School cafeteria, and enjoyed visiting patients in many different health care facilities.

Martha loved beach trips as well as day-trips, attending N.C. State football and women’s basketball games for over 40 years. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and family reunions, cake decorating, tole painting, jigsaw puzzles, and other arts and crafts. She loved nature and especially watching her birds and hummingbirds.

She loved laughter, her family, and was loved by many. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Callicutt was preceded in death by her brother, Joe Foye Hodgin. She is survived by her husband, Joe Callicutt, of the home; daughter, Pam Callicutt of Asheboro; son, Eddie Callicutt (Keisha) of Asheboro; brother, Charles Hodgin (Suzie) of Monroe; sister, Rebecca Jenkins (Lanny) of Lincoln, CA; grandchildren, Sean Cook (Ashley) of Asheboro, Scott Cook of Cedar Falls, Alison Cook, Austin Callicutt, Alexis Callicutt, all of Asheboro; great grandchildren, Brayden Cook, Chloe Cook, both of Asheboro, Tinsleigh Cook, Brenlynn Cook, both of Cedar Falls.

The family will receive friends at Oakhurst Baptist Church from 12:00 p.m. until 1:45 p.m. on Friday, October 19, 2018, prior to the service. Memorials may be made to Alzhiemer’s Association Western Carolina Chapter, 4600 Park Rd. , Suite 250, Charlotte, NC 28209; or to Oakhurst Baptist Church, 2225 S. Fayetteville Street, Asheboro, NC 27205.
