Martha Jane “Janie” Maxwell, 74, of Smiths Station, AL, passed away Friday, July 6, 2018 at Piedmont Columbus Regional in Columbus, GA. Funeral services will be held 11:00 am EDT, on Monday, July 9, 2018 at Vance Memorial Chapel, with Rev. Grant Parker officiating.

Interment will follow at Lakeview Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends Sunday from 3:00 until 5:00 pm EDT at the funeral home. Janie was born on May 4, 1944, in Columbus, GA, daughter of the late Wilbur Petty and Joanne Woodham.

She retired from both the Medical Center and Keebler. Janie was a member of Epworth United Methodist Church and also a member of the Amen Choir. Additionally, she was a member of the Red Hat Society.

Other than her parents she is preceded in death by a brother, Ronnie Petty. She is survived by her loving husband, Larry Maxwell of Smiths Station, AL; three daughters, Michele Chisum and husband Joel of Opelika, AL, Jennifer Williams of Phenix City, AL and Debbie Harnois of Columbus, GA;; two sons, Donnie Whitley of Talbotton, GA, and T J Powell of Texas; four grandchildren, Daniael, Brandi, Steele and Hannah; five great-grandchildren and other extended family and caring friends. Flowers will be accepted or donations may be made to the Amen Choir, 4011 Lakewood Dr. Phenix City, AL 36867.
