Neal Carlton Deanhardt, age 87 of Phenix City, Alabama passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by his family on Sunday morning, July 1, 2018. Funeral services will be held at Trinity United Methodist Church in Phenix City, Alabama on July 3, 2018 at 11:00 AM. Visitation will at 10:00 in the church sanctuary before the service with Reverend Bruce Johnson and Reverend David Hendrix officiating.

Mr. Deanhardt was born in Anderson, South Carolina to Melvin and Ellen Deanhardt on December 10, 1930. He graduated from Hanna High School in Anderson, SC. He married Lenore Hurtt Deanhardt on July 23, 1954 in Phenix City, Alabama.

He served in the US Army for three years during the Korean Conflict and was stationed in Bremhaugen, Germany. During his tenure in the US Army, he trained as a shipbuilder. The building craft of masonry was ingrained in Neal’s South Carolina family heritage.

For decades, he was a brick masonry contractor in the Chattahoochee Valley. He raised his family in the three houses he built from the ground up. Mr. Deanhardt also built two houses for his daughters that are a testimony to his skill and expert knowledge of his trade.

He left his influence on his employees and many went on to become brick masons with their own businesses. His community service included many years with the Phenix City School Board. He was instrumental in advising school district leaders when new buildings were built and construction projects completed.

His advice as a builder helped save tax dollars for our community. After retirement, he was very active in his beloved church, Trinity United Methodist. He coordinated and completed many projects in the church including building 1 / 2 a handicapped ramp, painting, repairs in the church belfry, roof and renovation of the parsonage.

Mr. Deanhardt is preceded in death by his parents, brother, Raiford Deanhardt and brother, Michael Deanhardt. Mr. Deanhardt is survived by his wife of 63 years, Lenore, daughters, Karen (David) Jones and Melanie Scarborough, grandchildren, Haley (Josh) Caro, Ryan (Laura) Jones, Ellen Scarborough, great-grandchildren, Laney and Levi Caro and Parker Jones, sisters, Imogene (Jimmy) Wilson and Carolyn Kernels, numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to Trinity United Methodist Church, P.O Box 490, Phenix City, Al.
