Martha went to her eternal home on January 30, 2019 after a short illness. A longtime resident of Pike County, Martha lived most of her life in Summit, MS. She was 76 years old.

Visitation will be Friday, February 1, 2019 from 5 pm to 8 pm at the Hartman-Jones Funeral Home of McComb, located on Delaware Ave. Visitation continues on Saturday, February 2, 2019 from 9 am to 11 am followed by funeral service in the chapel at Hartman-Jones. Burial will follow at the Baron Bethany Cemetery on Summit-Holmesville Rd in McComb.

Dr. Larry LeBlanc of FBC Summit will officiate. Martha was born on February 2, 1942 to John P. Nixon and Inez Redding. She grew up in Summit, MS and graduated from Johnston Station High School.

She married King Martel Baker in 1959. They owned and operated King’s Discount Drugs in McComb for over 30 years. Martha was the business manager and partner for the entire time.

Martha loved the Lord, her husband King, her family, and her friends and neighbors. She is remembered for her devotion as a wife and mother, especially for her enduring love and support for King throughout their life together. An active member of First Baptist Church in Summit, she served as a volunteer in so many areas, offering her home and hospitality for numerous ministries throughout her life.

She loved the youth and the staff, encouraging and supporting them. She and King had a heart for missions and made several medical mission trips to Nicaragua and Honduras. Martha loved traveling with family, spending as much time as possible with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, King Baker; her father John Nixon of Warner Robbins, GA and mother Inez Bryant of Summit; father-in-law Edwin Baker and mother-in-law Alice Baret Baker of Summit; sister Betti Redding of Summit. Martha is survived by four children, Cherie Baker Brown and husband Jeff of McComb, MS, King M. Baker, Jr and his wife Michelle of Fulshear, TX, Keith L. Baker and his wife Roxanne of Katy, TX, and Pennie Baker Redd and husband Jeff of Bogue Chitto, MS. ; ten grandchildren, Blair Rosenbaum of Austin, TX, Russ Brown and wife Kayla of Lascassas, TN, Devyn Baker of Summit, Derek Baker and wife Celia of Grafenwoehr, Germany, Kendall Baker of Katy, TX, Josh Baker of Oxford and brother Jackson Baker of Katy, TX, Corey Brown of McComb, Lucy Redd and sister Lily Redd of Bogue Chitto; one sister, Peggy Moak and husband Alvin M. of Bogue Chitto, MS; one great granddaughter, Addie Rose Baker, and two great grandchildren on the way; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be grandsons Russ Brown, Corey Brown, Josh Baker, Jackson Baker, and nephews LaRue Baker and Bobby Moak. Honorary pallbearers will be grandson Blair Rosenbaum, nephews Dan Brown, Dale Barnett, David Baker, and Mac Baker. Memorial donations in Martha N. Baker’s name may be made to First Baptist Church of Summit.
