Obituary for Martha Swiney Martha Swiney, age 73, of Bristol, Virginia passed away on Saturday, October 13, 2018 in the Abingdon Health and Rehabilitation Center, Abingdon, Virginia. She was born in Bristol, Tennessee on March 2, 1945, a daughter of the late Homer James and Virginia Leonard Whicker. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Jimmy K. Swiney; and one brother, James Whicker.

Martha grew up in a loving family, with her brother and sister. Once in high school, Martha went on a blind date and met the love of her life, Jimmy Swiney. The two married and did everything together, with projects going all the time.

They built a beautiful home, a cozy cabin in Konnarock and an adorable cottage near the lake. Martha was never afraid to get her hands dirty, mowing and planting beautiful flowers, every year. Martha and Jimmy had two wonderful children together.

They loved their family and getting to spend as much time with them as possible. She loved singing in the choir at East End Christian Church, Martha had the most beautiful voice. She loved praising God and spreading his word.

Anyone who knew Martha would tell you, she was an angel on earth. Martha is survived by two sons, Robert K. Swiney and wife, Beth of Bristol, VA and Mark A. Swiney and wife, Evisa of Sierra Vista, AZ; seven grandchildren, Robert K. Swiney, II, Nikki Swiney, Ashley Pullon, Kristian E. Swiney, Kaitlin E. Swiney, Zachary E. Swiney, and Mathew E. Swiney; one great-granddaughter, Isabelle Riley Swiney; one sister, Betsy Willard and husband, Cecil; and several nieces and nephews. The family would like to express a special thank you to Oakmont at Gordon Park, Bristol, VA and Abingdon Health & Rehab Center, Abingdon, VA for all the love and care shown to Martha during her illness.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, October 16, 2018 at East End Christian Church, 1216 Texas Avenue, Bristol, VA 24201. The funeral service will be conducted at 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, October 16, 2018, at East End Christian Church with Minister Sam Murray officiating. The committal service and interment will be conducted at 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, October 17, 2018 in Mountain View Cemetery.

Everyone is asked to meet at the cemetery at 12:45 p.m., Wednesday. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made in honor of Martha to East End Christian Church, 1216 Texas Ave. , Bristol, VA 24201.
