Obituary for Martin G. Twenhafel Martin G. Twenhafel, 92, of rural Gorham, passed away at 11:40 a.m. on Monday, May 7, 2018, at home. Martin was born October 31, 1925, in Jacob, IL, a son to the late Paul J. and Clara (Hasselbrock) Twenhafel. He was first united in marriage to Lorene L. (Zerbst) Twenhafel on February 15, 1947; Lorene preceded him in death on January 7, 1982.

He then was united in marriage to Katherine J. (Snider) Christensen Twenhafel on February 12, 1983; Katherine preceded him in death on March 31, 2018. Martin was a lifetime member of Christ Lutheran Church in Jacob, IL, and served in every office at Christ Lutheran Church and was an usher for over 60 years. Martin was a U.S. Army Veteran serving in Europe during WWII as a battalion superintendent with the Military Police.

He was a member of American Legion Paul Stout Post 127, and the Veterans of Foreign Wars (V.F.W.) Post 7190, both in Murphysboro, and was a Life Member of both organizations for over 70 years. Martin was a lifetime farmer. He was the owner and President of Twenhafel Sales and Service, Inc. Martin was a licensed real estate agent, appraiser, certified farm and farm equipment appraiser, and a certified grain inspector.

His memberships included the Jackson County and Illinois Farm Bureau, Jacob Community “Pit Master,” Illinois Port District Association, Jackson/Union Counties Port District Board of Directors, where he served for 33 years. He served as Secretary for Twin County Service Company for 6 years, 4-H Leader for 12 years, and the Jackson County Extension Council. Martin served on the original committees that organized the Egyptian Telephone Cooperative, and the Egyptian Electric Cooperative that organized the construction of the Lake of Egypt power plant.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, May 11, 2018, at Christ Lutheran Church in Jacob, IL. Rev. Mike Kettner will officiate.

Burial will follow at Christ Lutheran Cemetery with Military Rites by Paul Stout American Legion Post 127 of Murphysboro. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, May 10, 2018, at Crawshaw Funeral Home in Murphysboro and from 9 a.m. until the hour of services on Friday at Christ Lutheran Church. Memorials are the preferred form of remembrance and may be made to Christ Lutheran Church and will be accepted at the funeral home or church.

Survivors include his three sons and daughters-in-law, Glenn and Mary Jo Twenhafel of Gorham, Wayne and Cathy Twenhafel of Jacob, and Roger and Terri Twenhafel of Murphysboro; two brothers, Orval (Brenda) Twenhafel of Murphysboro and Clarence (Ruby) Twenhafel of Hillsboro, OR; five grandchildren, Mark (Deana) Twenhafel, Mike (Angie) Twenhafel, Christy (Jason) Gardner, Nick (April) Twenhafel and Lori (Ross) Dobson; eleven great-grandchildren, Dacoda and Conner Twenhafel, Blake and Brady Twenhafel, Tripp, Case and Demi Gardner, Ella and Hudson Twenhafel, Ethan and Beckett Dobson. In addition to his parents and wives he was preceded in death by his step-mother Clara Borrenpohl, one sister and brother-in-law, Leona and Harry Heins, one brother, Ralph Twenhafel, and one daughter-in-law, Sharon Twenhafel.
