Mary Catherine “Cathy” Mills Thompson 75, of Terre Haute, passed away peacefully November 23, 2018 in the ICU at Union Hospital with her children by her side. She was born January 21, 1943 in Pana, Illinois, to Jesse Earle Mills and Dorothy Verna Llewellyn Mills, the youngest of three children. Her father, was transferred to Brazil, Indiana, when she was four years old.

She attended Pinkley Street School and graduated from Brazil High School in 1961. She was primarily a stay-at-home mom, although she also provided child care and worked in the school cafeteria at times. She served as a Girl Scout Leader, Boy Scout Den Mother and Sunday School Teacher.

After her divorce in 1980, she held clerical positions at The Tribune Star and Volt Information Sciences. In the fall of 1981 she was accepted in the Licensed Practical Nurse program at Ivy Tech. She graduated and passed her boards in June of 1983.

She loved being a nurse! She cared for the older generation and asked them questions about their lives while being a true advocate for their well-being. Upon retirement from Sisters of Providence in July of 2006, she began serving ministry teams for nursing home residents and the homebound.

She was an active member of the Mount Pleasant United Methodist Church where she also served on the Children’s Ministry Team. She loved serving the Lord and fellow Christians! It was a humble honor and great joy for her to share her love for Jesus Christ to others!

She also enjoyed traveling, playing euchre, watching movies and spending time with her family – especially the grands and greats! Cathy we preceded in death by her parents; her sister Verna Lee Hill and brother-in-law David Lee Hill; and her beloved grandson, Christopher Levi Morley. Survivors include her son, Andrew Thompson of Terre Haute; her daughters, Sandra Thompson of Terre Haute and Manda Stanton and her husband Scott of Clinton; brother, James Mills and is wife Patricia of Beavercreek, Ohio.

She is also survived by her grandchildren, Stacey Reece, Ji Thompson-Carmen and Jebediah Thompson-Carmen; and her great grandchildren, Alyssa Buckallew, Kyra Morley, Lincoln Morley and Joshua Held; and longtime family friend Michael Richards and his wife Brenda; as well as several nieces, Nephews, cousins and many, many friends. Memorial Services are Saturday December 1, 2018 at 4:00 p.m. at Maryland Community Church Highway 46 Campus, 4700 South Highway 46, Terre Haute, IN, 47803. A gathering for family and friends will be from 2:00 p.m. until service time at the church.

Greiner Funeral Home, 2005 North 13th Street, Terre Haute, IN. 47804, were entrusted with arrangements. Pastor Dennis Tyson and Pastor Rick Swan will be officiating.

The family suggests that in lieu of flowers, contributions be made to P.I.N.K. of Terre Haute, envelopes will be available at the church. Special Thanks to the wonderful staff at Springhill Village Rehab and the ICU at Union Hospital for their compassionate care.
