Hazel Frances Schalburg, 95, of Terre Haute passed away November 26, 2018 in Cobblestone Crossings Health Campus at 1:33 am. She was born December 8, 1922 to Maurice Higgins Sr. and Lida Conway Higgins in Terre Haute. Hazel had a great love for music.

She sang with the Sweet Adeline’s Barber Shop Chorus for 40 years. She took some music courses in college, and in her 80’s she took piano lessons. In addition to raising her five children; she also raised her sister Virginia’s three children.

Hazel is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Adelbert F. Schalburg, a son, Leonard Schalburg, brothers; Bob, Billy, Harry and Maurice Higgins Jr. sisters; Helen Altvatar and Virginia Presnell, niece, Yvonne Ash, nephew, Art Presnell Jr. and a great niece Ashley Martinez. She is survived by sons; Joseph Schalburg and his wife Rolanda “Dee”, and Jonathan Schalburg, daughters; Anna Colglazier and her husband Larry, and Tina Schalburg, niece, Julie Presnell, brother, Max Higgins (Eleanor), a daughter in law, Corliss, 9 grandchildren, and several great grandchildren and great great grandchildren. Graveside services for Hazel will be Friday, November 30, 2018 in Mount Pleasant Cemetery at 11 am.

Pastor Rick Swan will officiate. Greiner Funeral Home, 2005 North 13th Street, Terre Haute, Indiana, 47804 was entrused with arrangements. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Happiness Bag of Terre Haute.
