Mary Helen (Lubbehusen) Elsner, age 89, passed away at her home in Evansville, Indiana on January 27, 2019. She was born in Dale, Indiana on January 19, 1930, the daughter of Theodore and Maime Lubbehusen. She was preceded in death by her parents and four brothers, Leo, Louis, Henry and Charles.

She is survived by her husband of 68 years, Ralph W. Elsner; her three children, Sheila Rutkowski of Carmel Indiana, Allen Elsner of Evansville Indiana, and David Elsner (Keryl) of Newburgh Indiana; and her four grandchildren: Michael, Jennifer, Diandra, and Drew. Mary graduated from Dale High School in 1948. She graduated with a nursing degree from the St. Mary’s Hospital School of Nursing in 1951 and worked at St. Mary’s Hospital as a registered nurse.

She was a very active member of Christ the King Catholic Church. Mary was a volunteer school nurse, assistant teacher, quilter and choir member. She was active in the Alter Society and worked at church socials.

In recognition of her service to her church, Mary was inducted into the honorary association known as the Bruté Society. She was a charter and continuing member of the Abbot Martin Marty Guild at Saint Meinrad. Mary was a devoted mother and wife who served her family and the Lord each day of her life choosing to love always and not judge others.

She showed the love and forgiveness of Christ Jesus in everything she did. She was a great encourager and comforter. Her positive attitude and contagious smile were maintained in sickness and in health.

She was famous for Saturday morning waffles off the griddle for friends and family. Mary enjoyed cooking, sports, playing bridge, dancing at the Friday Night Dance Club and attending any event her children or grandchildren were participating in. Special thanks to everyone at Heritage Hospice, Around the Clock Care, and the VA for your loving care and support.

Visitation will be Friday, February 1, 2019 from 4-8 pm at the Ziemer Funeral Home East Chapel, 800 S. Hebron Avenue, Evansville, IN where a memorial service will be held at 7:00 pm. Visitation will continue Saturday, February 2, 2019 from 9-10 am at Christ The King (Annunciation) Catholic Church, 3010 E. Chandler Evansville, IN 47714 where a mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10:00 am with Father Alex Zenthoefer officiating. Entombment will be at St. Joseph Mausoleum immediately following the mass.
