Obituary for Mrs. Mary Frances Smotherman Mary Frances Smotherman “We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body and to be present with the Lord”. 2 Corinthians 5:8. It is with great sadness that we must let everyone know that our beloved mother, Mary Frances Smotherman, joined her husband, and other family members, in Heaven on May 22, 2018.

She was born December 30, 1932, in Shelbyville, TN, to the late Harvey Wayne and Gladys Bell Clanton Claxton. She was a woman of integrity and dignity who loved the Lord. Her sweet smile was a ray of sunshine to all of her family and friends.

The family will receive visitors 4-8 PM Friday at the funeral home. Funeral services will be 10 AM Saturday, May 26, 2018, at Feldhaus Memorial Chapel. Reverend Greg Salyer and Reverend Jim West will officiate with burial to follow at Willow Mount Cemetery.

Mary Frances had several friends at her second home in Jonesborough, TN. Therefore, A Celebration of Life for Mary Frances will held at Southwestern Baptist Church in Johnson City, TN, on May 30, 2018, at 7:00 P.M. She is preceded in death by her husband, Russell Smotherman, in 2010, and a brother, W.H. Claxton in 2013.

She is survived by her son, Wendell and wife Brenda Smotherman, of Jonesborough, TN; three grandchildren: James Smotherman, of Johnson City, TN, Mandy and husband Tommy Thompson, of Jonesborough, TN, and Mandi Hodge and fiancé Pat Fomento of Johnson City, TN; and seven great-grandchildren: Olivia Smotherman, Travis Phipps, Jr., Lana Phipps, Spider Smotherman, Wednesday Smotherman, Dagger Smotherman, and Jake Burnsed.
