Mary Gaillard Hartley McDaniel, 93, widow of William Thomas (Bill) McDaniel, Jr., died June 16 after a brief illness. She was a member of the Batesburg-Leesville Presbyterian Church where she was an ordained Elder. She attended Limestone College, had been active in the B-L Study Club, Wednesday afternoon bridge club and was a Master Gardener.

Survivors include sons William Thomas McDaniel, III, of Lexington and Dr. Richard Lane McDaniel (Faye) of Leesville. Mrs. McDaniel leaves behind five grandchildren: Ashleigh M. Near (Jesse), William Thomas McDaniel, IV (Jessi), Cara M. Webb (Tommy), Sara M. Scott (Jeffrey), Ryan Eugene McDaniel (Amber), and eight great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her parents, Sarah Pinckney and Eugene Lodwick Hartley; sisters, Margaret Horry (Sis) Duncan, Mayrant Pinckney (Winkie) Bane, Alice Norris Hartley, brother Eugene Lodwick (Bud) Hartley, Jr., and special cousin Ralph Laine Hartley.

There will be a private gathering to celebrate her memory at a later date.
