Mary-Jo Lounsberry of Columbia, SC was surrounded by her husband and family when she gained her wings. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, and teacher. She truly believed in teaching a child to read they would be able to write their own ticket for the rest of their lives.
She engrained the same in her children teaching them an education is something that can never be taken from them. She had her Master’s in Education and taught at a couple local elementary schools. Spent most of her career at Meadowfield Elementary and HB Rhames and there she touched many teachers and children throughout her career.
The outpouring of love and support from friends during her illness brightened her days while here and will be cherished by family. She would want us to celebrate and enjoy the times we had with her and the people she touched and taught. She is survived by her husband Stephen Rex Lounsberry, her daughter Stephanie Lounsberry Perdue and husband Bradley Perdue, Son Jonathan William Lounsberry and Wife Liza Lounsberry, and her grandchildren William Rex Lounsberry (Stephanie) and Madeline Grace Lounsberry and Thomas Rex Lounsberry (Jonathan).
We are celebrating her life Dec 28th at 11 am at Trinity Cathedral. In Lieu of flowers, we are asking donations to go in her memory to Turning Pages SC because of her love for literacy and reading.
