Mary’s Obituary Mary Johnston, 63 of Kirksville passed away Thursday (February 14, 2019) at her home. The daughter of Warren H. and Hermina L. (Evers) Backs, she was born January 12, 1956 in Springfield, Illinois. On June 30, 1974 in Petersburg, Illinois she was united in marriage to Robert Johnston.

Mary is survived by her children, Dawn Baker and husband Hal of Clinton, Arkansas and Stephanie Jamison and husband Mike of Wright City, Missouri; seven grandchildren, Tyler Baker, Timothy Baker, Hallie Baker, Hannah Baker, Levi Jamison, Evan Jamison and Avery Louise Jamison; one brother, John Backs of Greenview, Illinois; one sister, Linda Potts and husband Jim of Petersburg, Illinois; her father-in-law, George Johnston of Carlinville, Illinois; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Robert on June 1, 2016 and her son, Eric on February 8, 2018. Mary graduated high school in Greenview, Illinois in 1974.

She worked in a varied of farm hand work in Illinois. She followed her husband to Bible College in East Peoria, Illinois. In 1998 they surrendered to the mission field and worked with the Haitian people in the Dominican Republic and Haiti.

She was a member of Grace Baptist Church in Green Castle, MO. She enjoyed serving the Lord and greatly enjoyed her grandkids. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother.

Visitation with the family will be from 12:00 to 2:00 p.m. Monday (February 18, 2019) with funeral service at 2:00 p.m. Monday at Davis-Playle-Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Jewell Cemetery. Memorials in memory of Mary are suggested to the Jewell Cemetery.
