Mary Lind Johnson of Scottdale, passed away early Saturday morning, May 19, 2018, at her residence. Mary was born December 25, 1932 in Lund, Texas, daughter of the late Harry E. and Elin E. Gustafson Lind. Mary was a member of Scottdale Mennonite Church.
She graduated from Bob Jones University, Greenville, SC where she received a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education. Mary taught school in Texas for several years. After marriage, however, she devoted her love and energy to being a mother of seven children and a pastor’s wife.
Later on, she was employed by Provident Bookstore in Souderton, PA and as manager in Scottdale, PA. She was also an employee of the Mennonite Publishing House in Scottdale. Mary was a former member and president of the Scottdale Merchants’ Association, and past secretary of Scottdale Chamber of Commerce.

Lamont and her husband Stuart of Kitchener, Ontario, Canada Stephen M. Wiebe-Johnson and his wife Dorothy of Elkhart, Indiana Timothy Martin Johnson and his wife Carol of Philadelphia, PA Cynthia J. Nutter and her husband Duncan of Stowe, VT Cheryl J. Cummings and her husband Ron of Oceanside, CA John R. Johnson and his wife Nancy (Newcomer) of Chagrin Falls, OH She is also survived by: Brother Harry Lind of Austin, TX Sisters-in-law Carol Hinds of Pittsburgh, PA, and Doris Thompson of Austin, TX Twenty-one grandchildren: Alex, Julian, Duncan, Grace, Michael, Aaron, Mark, Robert, Alec, Ellie, Emma, Katie, Isaiah, Tasha, Amy, August, Forrest, Marty, Scott, Ethan, Aidyn and three great-grandchildren Jake, Johan, and Theo. In addition to her parents, she was pre-deceased by: Husband Rev. Robert N. Johnson who died October 25, 1990 Brothers Arthur, John, and Ralph Thompson Sisters-in-law June and Imogene Thompson and Anne Lind Mary’s family will greet friends in the Frank Kapr Funderal Home, 417 West Pittsburgh Street, Scottdale on Monday, May 21 from 2 to 8 pm.
The funeral service will be held at Scottdale Mennonite Church, 801 Market Street, Scottdale on Tuesday, May 22 at 11:00 am with viewing from 10:00 until 10:45. In lieu of flowers, the family suggest memorials be made to Mennonite Mission Network or the Laurelville Mennonite Church Center pool project. The family would like to express our gratitude for the extraordinary care she has received at Excela Health, Frick Hospital, Harmon House, and Woodcrest Senior Living.
