Obituary for Mary Leah Thorne Williamson Farmville…………………………………………………. Mary Leah Thorne James Williamson, age 90 passed away peacefully on October 12th, 2018 following a brief period of declining health. Mary Leah was born in Farmville, NC to the late John T Thorne and Mary Croom Thorne.

She was predeceased in death by husbands Larry Moore James, Jr. and Milton Clay Williamson. Mary Leah attended Saint Mary’s College and graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where she was a member of Chi Omega Sorority. She was presented at the Terpsichorean Ball in 1945.

Mary Leah was a long-time member of her beloved Farmville United Methodist Church, where her father was a founding member. She participated in numerous activities and clubs and had many interests through the years including needlework, golf, bridge, daily crosswords and cryptoquote but most importantly spending time with friends and family. Although she moved to Raleigh to be near family, she remained devoted to her hometown of Farmville.

She is survived by children Larry Thorne James (Katrina), Stuart Burton James (Phyllis), Louise Williamson Fussell (John), and Milton Clay Williamson, Jr (Stella); grandchildren (who affectionately referred to her as “Manu”) Mary Catherine James Diss (Stephen), Susan Raymer James, Elizabeth Thorne James Cousanca (Brandon) and their mother Nancy Raymer James, Pierce Williamson Fussell, Vann Thomas Fussell, and Cody Harrison Edwards Brown, and great-grandson Anderson James Diss. Visitation will be held on October 18th from 3:00 – 4:00 in the Springmoor South Village Terrace Room, 1500 Sawmill Rd, Raleigh, NC 27615 A celebration of life will be held on Sunday, October 21st at 1:30 at Farmville United Methodist Church, followed by a reception in the church fellowship hall. The family would like to thank Dee Bogan and also the staff of Springmoor Lifecare Retirement Community for their love and care.
