Mary Leona Knarian, 81, of Bangor, passed away Thursday, September 27, 2018 at the Bronson Commons with her family by her side. She was born December 17, 1936 to Harold and May (Roser) Brearley. Mary was an only child raised in Covert where her father Harold drove bus.

Her mother passed away when Mary was seven. Mary’s aunt Irene would become a second mother to her. Mary worked as a waitress for many years at Holly’s in South Haven.

At home, Mary always had a fresh pot of coffee brewing to greet visitors. She married Vahee Knarian June 30, 1956. They shared 58 years of marriage together before his death in 2015.

Mary and Vahee were always very proud of their children and grandchildren. Mary and Vahee enjoyed going out for meals, especially with family and friends during their retirement years. They always took the scenic route wherever they went and enjoyed stopping at road-side sales along the way.

After Vahee’s passing, Mary’s grandson Steven chauffeured her to appointments and shopping. Mary treasured their time together. Mary’s last four months were spent living comfortably at Bronson Commons in Mattawan where the loving and caring staff were a blessing to her and her family.

She is preceded in death along with her parents and husband by her uncle and aunt – Harry and Irene Bearley. Mary is survived by two daughters – Virginia Roe of South Haven and Barbara (James) Bollnow of Bangor, grandchildren – Amy Roe, Ashlee (Nick) Matteo, Dylan Roe, and Steven and Nicole Bollnow, brother-in-law – Vahakn Knarian of Kalamazoo, sister-in-law – Bergouhi McNutt of Kentucky, Margaret Baber of Portage and Barbara Knarian of Otsego. Visitation will be held from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM on Wednesday, October 3, 2018 at the St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church in South Haven.

Funeral services will follow visitation at 11:00 AM at the church with Pastor Stephen Daley officiating. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Mary’s memory to the St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church, 718 Arbor Court, South Haven, Michigan 49090.
