OBITUARY Mary “Lolean” Grubbs Matthews April 22, 1931 – September 5, 2018 MATTHEWS, Lolean Grubbs, 87, passed away on Wednesday, September 5, 2018. She was born in Benhams, Va. , but resided most of her adult life in Sandston.
She was an employee of First & Merchants National Bank, Trust Department, for 10 years, a credit manager for Sears for 22 years, a pharmacy technician for CVS for 20 years and a dispatcher for Henrico Volunteer Rescue Squad for 17 years. She was a member and Past Matron of the Order of the Eastern Star, Montrose Chapter 176 for 44 years, a member of the American Legion, Sandston Post 242 for 34 years, where she was the past president of the Ladies Auxiliary, and a member of Corinth United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents, Bailey and Myrtle Barker; and husbands, John W. Grubbs Sr. and George T. Matthews Sr.; and is survived by children, U.S. Army Retired Sergeant Major Mark W. Grubbs (Regenia), Brian A. Grubbs and Clarence A. Grubbs (Arlene); grandchildren, Kara B. Grubbs, Wade A. Grubbs, Craig Fleury (Alyssa) and Tabitha Muller (Danny); great-grandchildren, Tristan, Riley, Haleigh, Brooke and Ethan; and brother, Fred Barker (Helen).
The family will receive friends Saturday, September 8, from 10 to 11 a.m., at Nelsen Funeral Home, 4650 S. Laburnum Ave. , Richmond, Va. 23231, where a service will immediately follow at 11 a.m., in the funeral home chapel.
Interment will be Monday, September 10, at 2 p.m., at Westhampton Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Corinth United Methodist Church, 23 W. Williamsburg Road, Sandston, Va. 23150.
