Mary Lynn Fischer of Harbor Springs died April 27, 2018 at McLaren Northern Michigan with all four of her girls at her side. They are comforted by her being reunited with the love of her life, their father John. Mary, daughter of the late Stuart and Gladys Olson, was born in Black River Falls, WI on December 3, 1941.

She graduated from Valparaiso University with a degree in Fine Arts, which is where she met John. They were married in Milwaukee and the family moved to Harbor Springs in 1974. Mary is survived by her older brother, John Olson of Indiana, four daughters, Kristin and Lesley of Harbor Springs, Debra (Gregg Garver) also of Harbor Springs, Tracy (Chris Meono) of Ann Arbor, and five grandchildren, Fischer, Libby, K.T., Evie and Tate.

Many in Harbor Springs will remember that John Fischer was a tireless volunteer for the community. Some know that Mary was right beside him in each of those efforts. She preferred to be the silent partner, the wind in his sails.

After John’s passing in 2010, Mary carved her own niche. She was part of a very close group of friends. The entourage met for events in town and also traveled cross country together.

She loved the Young Americans and found many opportunities to enjoy their entertainment. She was a member of the Little Harbor Club, often hosting friends on the porch and appreciating the view. Mary was elected Dame of the Year at the inaugural Dame Dinner in 2013.

She was an enthusiastic follower of all her grandkids’ activities and made sure they knew she was their biggest fan. A memorial celebration of her life will take place in early summer. In lieu of flowers, the family encourages contributions to the Little Traverse Conservancy, the Young Americans, or the Harbor Springs Area Historical Society.

Schiller Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements. Online condolences may be made at www. stonefuneralhomeinc.com.
