Obituary for Mary Margaret Sonski (Patenaude) Mary “Margaret” P. Sonski, 95, of Somers, peacefully went home to God after a brief illness, Wednesday, April 18, 2018. Margaret was a lifelong resident of Somers,CT. Born to Paul and Nora (Bell) Patenaude in 1924, she grew up and raised her family in Somers.

She was the wife of Longin J. Sonski for 46 years, who predeceased Margaret in 1995. She attended Somersville Grammar School and graduated from Rockville High School in 1942. After attending the Connecticut Institute of Hairdressing, Margaret worked at Sage Allen Dept.

Store’s Beauty Salon for 10 years. While raising her three children, she owned and operated Margaret’s Beauty Shop at her home for 22 years. After retiring, she and her husband loved to travel throughout the U.S. and abroad, visiting friends and relatives along the way.

Margaret was a member of All Saints Church and a Charter member of Court All Saints #1435 Cathoilc Daughters of the Americas. She was a Girl Scout Leader for 12 years, volunteered at the Red Cross Blood Drives, delivered Meals On Wheels and was a member of the Somers Garden Club, Somers Senior Center, and Somers Historical Society. Margaret loved being a wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend.

She leaves her three children, Joan Audet and her husband Richard of Farmington, Paul Sonski of Tarzana, CA, and Marybeth Marquardt of Somers, as well as four grandchildren including Rachel and Cleo Sonski of CA, and Josh and Shawn Marquardt of Somers. She also leaves behind a special niece, Patricia Doyker and her husband Frank, and their son, David, and daughter Amy, two special cousins, Mavis and Cedric Routledge of Huddersfield, England, as well as many nieces and nephews. Besides her husband, she was predeceased by two sisters, Virginia Patnaude and Leone Lakonski.

Margaret’s family will receive relatives and friends for visitation from 4-7 p.m. Friday, April 27, 2018 at Somers Funeral Home 354 Main St., Somers. The procession will form at 9 a.m. Saturday April 28, 2018 at Somers Funeral Home, for a 10 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at All Saints Church in Somersville. Committal will follow at St. Bernard’s Cemetery in Enfield.

Donations in Margaret’s memory may be made to the Somers Volunteer Fire Dept. , and to the Somers Fire Dept. Ambulance Division, 400 Main St., Somers , CT 06071.
