Mary Merritt, May 18, 1944 — January 12, 2019

Mary B. Cornell Merritt, 93 EAST LIVERPOOL – Mary Cornell Merritt, 93, of East Liverpool passed away on Saturday January 12, 2019. Born August 31, 1925 in Salem, West Virginia, she was the daughter of the late William and Laura Pierce Cornell. On May 18, 1944 she married Alaska W. Merritt who preceded her in death August 27, 1981.

She is survived by her children, Ronald (Candy) Merritt of Yulee, Florida, Richard (Ellen Jo) Merritt of East Liverpool, Robin (Harold) Miller of Wellsville, Robert (Hope) Merritt of East Liverpool and daughter-in-law Rebecca Merritt of Wellsville; 5 grandchildren: Ronald Jr., Amy, Sean, Tracy Jo, and Scott; 11 lovely great-grandchildren and several special nieces and nephews. Mary is preceded in death by one son Donald E. Merritt, her beautiful granddaughter Hope Michelle Miller, great-grandson Daniel Merritt; four sisters: Mamie Hinterer, Mabel McCartney, Hazel Waggoner and Edith Dailey; as well as three brothers, James, Fred and Thurman Cornell. Mary was a member of the Calcutta Church of the Nazarene.

She was educated in the Doddridge County School System and graduated West Union High School in May 1944. As a young lady she was active in 4-H and learned at a young age how to do home canning and continued doing her own canning through the years. She loved spending time with her family and would never let anyone leave her home hungry.

She loved to read, was an avid quilter and would write poems when her heart was full. She was a loving mother, grandmother and aunt. Perhaps they are not the stars, But rather openings in heaven where The love of our lost ones pours through And shines down upon us to let us know they are happy.

Eskimo Legend Evangelist Will Marmet and Evangelist Will Montgomery will conduct a funeral service Wednesday at 1:00 p.m. at the Dawson Funeral Home. Friends may visit three hours prior to the service. Following the service, family and friends will gather at the Dawson Family Center for fellowship.
