Mrs. Mary Tipton Bacon, age 92, of Old Fort, passed away Wednesday, October 17, 2018 at her home. A native of Washington County, Tenn. , she was born on January 1, 1926 to the late Lee Roy Tipton and Jannett Proffitt Tipton.

Mary was retired from the McDowell Hospital where she worked as a switchboard operator for many years. Her family, friends and church family rejoice that she is at rest now awaiting her Lord’s return. On the other hand, they are saddened that her quietly graceful presence will no longer be among them.

She lived her life as the perfect role model of a Christian lady, showing by example how to treat others and live your life for the Lord. A loving and caring wife, mother and grandmother, she was an excellent cook and loved working her garden and canning the fruits of her labor. Her husband of 62 years, James S. Bacon, preceded her in death.

Mary leaves behind two sons, James Richard Bacon and wife Martha of Old Fort and Daryl Gene Bacon and wife Lynda of Jasper, TN; a brother-in-law, Clyde Bacon of Elizabethton, TN; three grandchildren, Tammy Mann, and Jessica and Rachel Bacon; three great-grandchildren, Wesley Keith, Camryn Salinas, and Brayden Mann; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at a later date at the Marion Seventh-day Adventist Church. She will be laid to rest beside her beloved James in the Pine Cove Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Pine Cove Cemetery Maintenance Fund, c/o Marion Seventh-day Adventist Church, 188 Ward Drive, Marion, NC 28752.
